The Vishay Siliconix SiP12109 operates at high programmable switching frequencies of up to 1.5MHz, and from a wide input-voltage range of 4.5V to 15V. The high switching frequencies of the device enable the designer to realise a compact design with small peripheral components, making it ideal for point-of-load regulation and 5V and 12V rails in space-constrained applications.
The SiP12109 integrates high- and low-side power MOSFETs, yet is packaged in a space-saving 3mm x 3mm QFN-16 package, providing designers with a complete 4A power circuit in a board footprint of just 180mm2.
The regulator provides an adjustable output voltage of as little as 0.6V, accurate to ±1%. The integrated MOSFETs offer peak efficiency of 95%, while a power-saving mode improves light-load efficiency.
The SiP12109’s current-mode constant on-time architecture produces a very fast response to transient voltages, with minimum output capacitance and tight ripple regulation at very light loads. The architecture ensures that the regulator is stable with any capacitor type and requires no ESR network for loop stability.
Vishay’s free PowerCAD online simulation tool provides designers with a fast and convenient way to test and refine circuits using the SiP12109 or any other product in the microBUCK DC-DC converter family. Vishay also offers the SiP12116, a 3A regulator switching at a fixed frequency of 650kHz; and the 3A, 600kHz SiP12117.
