The HVLED001 controller, which implements a quasi-resonant topology, may be used by power-system designers to achieve a very high power factor and low harmonic distortion when converting from any mains voltage.
Reliability is an important attribute to the users of LED lighting installations, and the HVLED001 boasts several features that help to protect the LED driver and maintain dependable operation. In particular, it protects the lighting circuit when the system is exposed to input-voltage variations, over-voltage events due to surges or bursts, and very low input voltages.
Applications based on the HVLED001 can achieve high efficiency even at very low loads due to its improved frequency fold-back feature, which simultaneously reduces the output-voltage ripple at light loads.
Drawing on ST’s innovative high-voltage process technology, the HVLED001 allows the designer to connect it directly to the input voltage in order to both start-up the device and to monitor the input, without any need for an external component.
The HVLED001 may control either the output voltage or the output current in a precise and reliable way using a small number of external components. Start-up and light-load conditions are managed by dedicated operating schemes to improve the quality of output regulation.
Abnormal conditions such as open circuits, output short circuits, input over-voltage or under-voltage and circuit failures such as open loop and over-current at the main switch are well controlled by the HVLED001.
