The LIS2HH12 from STMicroelectronics is a low-power, three-axis linear accelerometer which supports automatic display orientation and other user-interface applications.
A member of ST’s extensive portfolio of MEMS motion sensors, the LIS2HH12 offers full-scale measurement ranges of ±2g, ±4g or ±8g. It can measure acceleration at output data rates from 10Hz to 800Hz.
Sensitivity when measuring over a full scale of ±2g is rated at a typical 0.061mg/digit. The typical 0g level offset of ±30mg can be eliminated by enabling the built-in high-pass filter.
Intended for use in battery-powered and handheld devices, the LIS2HH12 makes efficient use of power, drawing just 180μA even when sampling at the maximum 800Hz data rate. In power-down mode the device draws just 5μA.
An embedded self-test capability allows the user to check the functioning of the sensor in the final application before shipping.
The LIS2HH12 has an integrated FIFO buffer which enables the user to store data, limiting the need for intervention by the host processor.
The device is housed in a land grid array package measuring just 2mm x 2mm x 1mm. It operates over a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
