Micrel has introduced the MIC45205, MIC45208 and MIC45212 power modules, which operate from a 4.5-26.5V input and are capable of producing an output current of 6A, 10A and 14A respectively. Generating very low levels of EMI, the modules ease the board-layout and compliance problems often associated with high-speed switching power supplies.
Highly integrated, these modules feature a complete switching power-supply solution in a compact, rugged, surface-mount QFN package. The devices include a PWM controller, power MOSFETs, inductor, and associated discrete components, helping users to save board space and reduce component count, and thus achieve higher system reliability.
The modules offer peak efficiency of more than 93%. Benefiting from Micrel’s Hyper Speed Control™ architecture, they also provide fast responses to load transients. Pin-compatible alternative versions feature HyperLight Load® technology, which improves efficiency when supplying light loads, instead of Hyper Speed Control™.
The MIC452xx modules integrate protection against over-current, over-voltage and thermal faults. An internal soft-start function controls the in-rush current. Additional features include the flexibility to adjust the current limit, frequency from 200kHz to 600kHz, and output voltage, from 0.8V to 5.5V.
The modules are available in 8mm x 8mm (MIC45205), 10mm x 10mm (MIC45208) and 12mm x 12mm (MIC45212) QFN packages, and operate from -40°C to 125°C.
