The ams TMD3782 integrated sensor for ambient light, colour (RGB) and proximity enables mobile devices to adjust the display continuously for more brilliant colours and a superior viewing experience in all lighting environments.
Thigh sensitivity enables the TMD3782 to detect light intensity through a variety of attenuation materials, including darkened glass. Integrated filters minimise the effects of ultra-violet and infrared light and enable photopic response thus improving the overall accuracy of light and colour sensing. The light-sensing photodiodes have a radial structure resulting in a uniform and optimised angular response when mounted under the 360° module lens. Their 45° field of view enables broad, accurate lighting measurements.
By also integrating a proximity sensor, the TMD3782 helps designers eliminate false ambientlight sensing measurements when the user’s hand or finger is covering the sensor.
It can also support user-interface features such as intelligent touchscreen on/off control. The proximity-sensing feature has a large dynamic range of operation, for accurate distance detection, and is factory-calibrated to a distance of 100mm. This saves OEMs from performing production-line calibration, and simplifies end-product manufacturing.
The module has an interrupt capability that generates an alert when pre-set light and AMS ENERGY colour thresholds are crossed. This eliminates the need for continuous polling and reduces overall system-power requirements thereby extending battery life. Compact dimensions of 3.9mm x 2.4mm x 1.4mm allow the module to be mounted in densely populated and lowprofile board assemblies.
