TE Connectivity’s Economy Power II (EP II) connectors feature new housing and terminal designs which help to achieve consistent and durable interconnection while allowing for simpler and more ergonomic handling.
The EP II connectors include specially designed plug housings, crimp contacts and post headers. The new plug housings are compatible with the first generation EP post headers and can be used as drop-in replacements without changing the PCB design.
The EP II’s provide snap-in receptacle terminal, and 12-position Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) which can be broken down to position number needed in actual application. . The inserted TPA retainers also prevent the contacts from backing out in applications subject to random vibration. Ergonomic features to assist during assembly and mating include polarisation tabs to help prevent accidental mis-mating, and an active locking latch on the housing to establish a robust dovetail lock between the header and housing when fully mated.
The locking mechanism produces a tangible and audible click and improves the vibration resistance of the interconnection. In a household appliance such as a washer or dryer, the connector halves will not come apart under the effect of vibration, even if it is intermittent.
Additional anti-snag features help to prevent discrete wires from becoming entangled in the latch mechanism.
To offer the best possible quality-control options, the housings have integrated probe-tip openings that facilitate immediate continuity testing. EP II connectors are UL-recognised and can be used at operating temperatures between -55°C and 105°C.
