Microchip PIC12F1571 and PIC12F1572 8-bit PIC® microcontrollers provide three full-featured 16-bit PWM generators with independent timers for applications requiring high resolution, combined with rich analogue peripherals, 8-bit and 16-bit timers, and a Complementary-Waveform Generator (CWG).
In addition to supporting standard and centre-aligned PWM output modes, the integrated PWM module also has four compare modes and can serve as an additional 16-bit timer. The CWG is able to generate complementary waveforms with fine control of key parameters such as polarity, dead band and emergency shutdown states, and can be used with the 16-bit PWMs to create half-bridge and fullbridge drive control. This provides a cost-effective solution, saving both board space and component cost when driving MOSFETs in motor-control and power-conversion applications.
In combination with analogue peripherals such as the 10-bit ADCs, comparator and 5-bit DAC, the PWM module and CWG can be used to implement closed-loop feedback and control.
The PIC12F1572 is the lowest-priced PIC microcontroller to integrate an EUSART, which can be used to support general-purpose serial communication, or LIN-based communication in automotive or industrial applications. The integrated 10-bit ADCs can support human interface or touch-sensing applications using Microchip’s mTouch™ capacitive-sensing technology.
PIC12LF1571 and PIC12LF1572 variants are also available, delivering the added benefit of low power consumption. These devices operate from a 1.8V to 3.6V supply and draw active current of less than 35μA/MHz and sleep current down to 20nA.
