Vishay has introduced two surface-mount transmissive optical sensors suitable for harsh low and high-temperature environments. The single-channel TCPT1350X01 and the dual-channel TCUT1350X01 are rated for a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.
The TCPT1350X01 includes an infra-red emitter and a phototransistor detector located face-to-face in a surface-mount package. The TCUT1350X01 has the same configuration, except that it features two phototransistor detectors rather than one. The sensors have a phototransistor output, apertures of 0.3mm, and operate at a wavelength of 950nm.
The 3mm gap between the emitter and detector allows the devices to be used with a wide variety of materials, and also supports looser mechanical tolerances than sensors with smaller gaps. This can be helpful in automotive and industrial applications.
In particular, the TCPT1350X01 and TCUT1350X01 can be used as position sensors for encoders in high-temperature environments close to motors, as well as in ignition locks and adaptive headlights.
Both sensors can detect motion and speed. The TCUT1350X01’s dual-channel output means that it can also be used to detect direction of motion in applications such as electronic power steering.
