TE Connectivity has introduced a relay capable of handling an in-rush current as high as 320A, as specified by the IEC 60669-1 standard, for switches in household and similar fixed electrical installations. The new RTX relay is rated for continuous loads of up to 16A/250V AC.
The high in-rush capability of this 1 form A (NO) relay is a feature of its innovative dual contact system. It incorporates both a TE flip-flop spring and a tungsten pre-make contact set to switch in-rush currents up to 320A. Loads are carried and broken using the relay’s silver tin oxide contact set.
An extension of the RT family of relays for high in-rush current, the RTX has a newly designed bi-stable magnetic system. Both one- and two- coil models provide high energy efficiency. The relay’s actuator design also features a built-in contact-opening mechanism which helps to open microwelds occurring during the operation of the relay, thus extending its life.
Measuring only 29.1mm x 12.7mm x 16mm, the RTX is approximately half the size of other products on the market, thus offering designers a means to save space while maintaining high in-rush current capability.
