Operating across a wide voltage range of 6V to 28V, the MCP8024 can drive six external high or low-side N-channel MOSFETs. On-board analogue features include:
- three current-sensing operational amplifiers
- an over-current comparator
- a bi-directional communications interface
In addition, the MCP8024 provides an adjustable step-down DC-DC converter capable of producing 750mW, sufficient to power a motor control system’s microcontroller or digital signal controller. On-board 5V and 12V LDOs are rated for a maximum 20mA output.
Designers can rely on the new device to provide for robust operation, since it is capable of withstanding transient voltages of up to 48V. Offering a wide operating ambient temperature range of -40°C to 150°C, the MCP8024 can be used in harsh environments such as the automotive engine compartment.
Design flexibility is enhanced by the provision of features useful to BLDC designs, including configurable driver dead-time management, driver blanking-time control and an over-current limit for external MOSFETs.
The MCP8024 is available in thermally-enhanced 40-pin QFN 5mm x 5mm and 48-pin TQFP 7mm x 7mm packages.
