The VISHAY SurfLight™ portfolio comprises infrared emitting diodes offering high speed and high radiant power for purposes such as remote control, switching or illumination.
The VSMY14940 and VSMB14940 surfacemount side-looking emitters are ideal for remote-control and switching applications, and are based on GaAlAs surface-emitter and Multi-Quantum Well (MQW) technologies respectively. Offering an extremely low profile of 1.2mm and narrow ±9° angle of half intensity, these devices are ideal for remote-control applications in space-constrained end-products. The VSMY14940 has extremely high radiant intensity to 82mW/sr at 70mA drive current, rise time of 10ns resulting in fast switching performance, and forward voltage of 1.48V to minimise energy losses. For applications needing a lower optical output, the VSMB14940 offers radiant intensity of 35mW/sr with a rise time of 15ns, and forward voltage of 1.33V.
The VSMY98545 delivers radiant intensity of up to 350mW/sr and has a wide angle of half intensity of 45°, making this an ideal device to provide illumination for CMOS cameras or machine-vision systems. The diode can be driven at a maximum continuous current of 1A or pulsed current of 5A, and is capable of high-speed performance thanks to its 15ns rise time. It is moulded in a surface-mount package that has low thermal resistance and features a built-in lens. With forward voltage of 2.3V at 1A drive current, the VSMY98545 helps to simplify system thermal design and minimises energy demands on the battery or power supply.
